Mamelodi Sundowns have launched a new home kit that not only revives one of the most iconic jerseys in the club’s history but also becomes the first to carry two stars above the badge in honour of their second CAF Champions League triumph.
The 2026/27 strip, created in partnership with technical sponsor PUMA, pays homage to the famous 1994 Mamelodi Sundowns jersey while celebrating the club’s status as champions of Africa. The kit will be worn throughout the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.
Tribute to a classic 1994 look
The new home kit restores the traditional combination that became synonymous with Sundowns’ early rise to prominence: a yellow shirt, blue shorts and white socks. That colour scheme famously appeared on the cover of the inaugural edition of Kick Off magazine in February 1994, cementing its place in South African football folklore.
While the new design draws heavily on that heritage, it introduces a series of modern touches. The shirt features red PUMA logos, a thin green stripe on the collar and subtle debossed yellow striping across the body, giving the jersey a contemporary feel without losing its retro roots.
According to the club, the strip has been carefully constructed to symbolise both Sundowns’ past and their ongoing success on the continent and at home.
“The new shirt is the first to feature two stars after the club’s ‘shoeshine and piano’ style of play secured the CAF Champions League for the second time, in May 2026.“
‘Shine on Masandawana’ connects eras
The launch is fronted by the “Shine on Masandawana” campaign, which brings together current first-team players and some of the most celebrated figures in the club’s history.
Present-day stars Grant Kekana, Thapelo Morena, Malibongwe Khoza and Kutlwano Letlhaku appear alongside legends Daniel “Mambush” Mudau, Roger Feutmba and Hlompho Kekana, underlining the intention to bridge generations of success.
PUMA South Africa Marketing Director Brett Bellinger said the jersey is designed as a tribute to everyone who has helped shape the club’s achievements.
“Mamelodi Sundowns and PUMA have formed a formidable team over the past decade and with the new kit we wanted to honour and celebrate all the players who have contributed to the club’s successful legacy.“
He added: “It is fitting that this Shine on Masandawana kit will be the first to feature a second star marking the club’s latest CAF Champions League win. More evidence that with Masandawana the Sky is the Limit.“
‘A piece of history’ for African champions
Former captain Hlompho Kekana, who led Sundowns to their first CAF Champions League title in 2016, believes the shirt carries deep emotional and historical weight for the club and its supporters.
“The new jersey, which is the first edition with two stars above the club’s crest, is a piece of history as it pays homage to the past and celebrates the success of Mamelodi Sundowns as the Champions of Africa.“
The reference to the team’s distinctive “shoeshine and piano” style – a slick, possession-based approach that has come to define Sundowns in the PSL era – underscores the club’s determination to match aesthetic identity with results on the pitch.
Release date and pricing
The new Mamelodi Sundowns home kit will be available to supporters from 31 July 2026.
The Authentic jersey, identical to the version worn by the players, will retail for R2,399. Replica versions will be priced at R1,299 for adults and R1,199 for children, as the club looks to make the historic two-star design accessible to a wide base of fans preparing for another season at the summit of South African football.
