Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly emerged as contenders to sign Nigeria international Olisa Ndah, with the Betway Premiership champions targeting the experienced defender as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 28-year-old centre-back is currently a free agent after leaving Stellenbosch FC at the end of last season, making him an attractive option for clubs seeking proven quality without paying a transfer fee.
Sundowns eye experienced defender
According to reports, Sundowns have already made an offer for Ndah as they look to add depth and competition to their defensive ranks.
The Tshwane giants are understood to value the Nigerian’s composure on the ball, aerial strength and versatility, qualities that align with the club’s possession-based style of play.
However, any move is expected to depend on Sundowns creating space within their foreign-player quota before registering another overseas player.
The club is reportedly working on offloading at least one foreign player to free up the required slot.
Versatility impressed at Stellenbosch
Ndah’s departure from Stellenbosch came as a surprise after head coach Gavin Hunt repeatedly praised his performances during the campaign.
The Nigerian not only featured in central defence but was also deployed in midfield when injuries left Hunt short of options, highlighting his tactical intelligence and adaptability.
His ability to perform in multiple positions had appeared to make him an important part of the club’s long-term plans before his exit at the end of the season.
Looking for a fresh start
Before joining Stellenbosch, Ndah spent several seasons at Orlando Pirates, where he established himself as one of the league’s most accomplished defenders.
Although recurring injuries interrupted his time with the Buccaneers and limited his appearances, there was little doubt about his quality whenever he was fully fit.
Sundowns believe the Super Eagles international still has plenty to offer and could become an important addition if he can remain injury-free.
Should the move be completed, Ndah would bring valuable Betway Premiership experience to a Sundowns side aiming to challenge for both domestic honours and continental success during the upcoming campaign.
