Samson Adamu has been appointed General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), having served in the position on an interim basis since March 2026.
The appointment was confirmed by CAF’s Executive Committee following a recruitment process that involved advertising the position and interviewing several candidates.
CAF president Patrice Motsepe said the organisation had conducted a comprehensive process before settling on Adamu for the role.
Adamu joined African football’s governing body in 2018 as Director of Competitions before progressing to become Director of Tournaments and Events.
He has since been involved in the organisation and delivery of major continental football competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), the flagship tournament on the CAF calendar.
His appointment places him in charge of CAF’s day-to-day administration, with responsibility for supporting the implementation of the organisation’s strategic objectives.
Adamu is a graduate of the FIFA Master programme in International Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, a qualification that combines studies in sports management, law and the wider sporting industry.
His experience within CAF is expected to provide continuity in the administration of the organisation as it oversees its competitions and other football development priorities across the continent.
