Malawi defender Chembezi Denis switches to N. Refineries

Malawi centre-back Chembezi Denis has joined N. Refineries from Al-Nasiriyah FC, bringing his latest move in Iraqi football to a completed conclusion.

The 28-year-old defender made the switch on 31 July 2026 after spending the previous part of the 2025-26 season with Al-Nasiriyah. Denis joined that club from fellow Iraqi side Al-Qasim SC in February, having previously spent time in South Africa with Black Leopards and Polokwane City.

Denis began his senior career with Mighty Wanderers FC before moving to Polokwane City in January 2020. He later joined Black Leopards in October 2022 and moved to Al-Qasim in August 2023. His career has therefore included spells in both the South African and Iraqi games, with N. Refineries becoming his latest club.

A right-footed central defender, Denis stands 1.8m tall and was born in Zomba, Malawi. He has also been associated with North Refineries SC at international level, adding experience from his home country to his club career abroad.

His recent playing record includes 11 appearances and 990 minutes in the Iraq Stars League. He has also made seven appearances in the Betway Premiership and six in the Nedbank Cup, reflecting a career that has covered league and cup competition in both countries.

Denis’s move gives N. Refineries a defender with experience of different football environments and a sequence of recent club changes. His most recent previous stop was Al-Nasiriyah, where he arrived earlier in 2026 after his spell with Al-Qasim.

The transfer comes with Denis valued at €75,000, although no fee has been attached to the move. He joins N. Refineries without a contract expiry date publicly stated.

Chembezi Denis completed his move from Al-Nasiriyah FC to N. Refineries on 31 July 2026.
