Thendo Mukumela: South African defender joins Kruger United from Black Leopards

South African centre-back Thendo Mukumela has joined Betway Premiership side Kruger United from Black Leopards in a completed transfer. The 28-year-old swaps Limpopo clubs after finalising his move on 19 July 2026 as Kruger United continue to reshape their squad for the new campaign.

Mukumela arrives as a specialist central defender, adding experience and physical presence to Kruger United’s back line. His move strengthens a defence preparing for the demands of South Africa’s top flight, with the club operating in the Betway Premiership while Black Leopards remain outside the division.

The switch marks a significant step for the former Black Leopards player, who now returns to the Premiership stage with a club seeking to establish itself at that level. His time at Leopards has given him extensive exposure to the domestic game and familiarity with the conditions and style of football in South Africa, factors Kruger United will expect to draw on immediately.

Mukumela’s arrival also underlines Kruger United’s focus on recruiting players with domestic experience rather than looking abroad. As a South African defender moving between two local sides, he fits a strategy that prioritises continuity and knowledge of the national game.

With the transfer completed and registration formalities in place, Mukumela links up with his new team-mates at Kruger United as their latest defensive signing for the forthcoming Betway Premiership season.
