Kruger United seal promotion to South African top flight

Kruger United FC have secured promotion to South Africa’s top division after a commanding 3-1 victory over Black Leopards FC confirmed them as champions.

The result ensures Kruger United will compete in the South African Premier Division next season, capping a dominant campaign in the second tier.

With two matches still to play, the club hold an unassailable lead at the top of the table, having accumulated 58 points from 28 games.

Their advantage of eight points over the nearest challengers means they cannot be caught, allowing them to secure automatic promotion without the need for playoffs.

The achievement completes a remarkable rise for a club formed as recently as 2023.

What this means for the Club

After earning promotion to the National First Division in 2024, Kruger United have now taken another step forward by reaching the top flight just two years later.

Central to their success has been goalkeeper Marcel Dandjinou, whose performances have played a key role throughout the season.

The 27-year-old Benin international has made 19 appearances and kept seven clean sheets, providing consistency and experience at the back.

Although he missed the decisive match due to a minor injury sustained the previous day, his contribution over the course of the campaign has been significant.

Dandjinou joined the club from JDR Stars FC and has been widely regarded as one of the standout performers in their title-winning run.

The promotion also marks an important milestone in his career, representing his first major success outside his home country.

What next

He previously won the Benin Cup in 2019 during his time in domestic football, and this latest achievement highlights his progression on the international stage.

For Kruger United, the title reflects a season of consistency and control, with the team establishing themselves as the strongest side in the division.

Their ability to maintain a clear lead at the top has set them apart from their rivals and ensured a straightforward route to promotion.

As they prepare for life in the top flight, attention will turn to how the club builds on this success and adapts to the challenges of the Premier Division.

For now, however, the focus remains on celebrating a historic achievement that has confirmed Kruger United’s rapid rise in South African football.
