Lamine Yamal hailed as ‘the best player in the world’ after Barcelona win

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has called Lamine Yamal “the best player in the world” after the teenager inspired a convincing victory over 10-man Real Betis on Saturday evening.

The Liga leaders scored a series of outstanding goals in Seville, with Yamal opening the scoring after only 10 minutes. The Spain forward beat his marker with a change of direction before curling an excellent finish into the far top corner.

Yamal also provided an assist in what was described as a memorable night for the Catalan club, while Rodri scored his first goal for Barcelona.

“His goal was simply fantastic,” Rodri told DAZN after the match. “He gets us used to performances like that. There is nothing more to add. Players like him are the ones who make the difference.”

Flick went further in his praise of the 16-year-old, who was substituted during the second half.

“Lamine Yamal is the best player in the world,” said the German manager. “When I replaced him, I told him I was proud of him.”

Rodri said Yamal’s contribution extended beyond his goal and assist, highlighting the wider role he plays within the team.

“But I also take into account everything he brings,” Rodri said. “His work ethic and his solidarity with the rest of the team, in particular. He got a little carried away by the provocation surrounding the red card for Betis, but I do not know exactly to what extent.”

Real Betis were reduced to 10 men during the match, but Barcelona’s performance had already been shaped by Yamal’s early finish and the quality of their attacking play.

The victory now gives Barcelona momentum before a demanding Champions League fixture. Flick’s side travel to face Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening.

“Everyone is at the top of their form,” Flick said. “I say it at every news conference because I see it every day.”

Rodri said Barcelona were focused on the challenge awaiting them in Paris, where they will face a side he considers among the strongest in the game.

“It will be a good test,” he said. “We are concentrating on Paris Saint-Germain. They may well be the best team in the world.”
