Manchester United have confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new long-term contract, extending his stay at the club until June 2031.
The agreement represents a significant commitment from both player and club, with Mainoo widely regarded as one of the most promising talents of his generation. The 21-year-old midfielder, who was born in Stockport, has been associated with Manchester United since childhood, joining the club’s academy in 2014 after first connecting with the club at the age of six.
Despite his young age, Mainoo has already established himself as an important figure in the first team, making 98 appearances and delivering key moments. Among his standout contributions was scoring the decisive goal in the 2024 FA Cup Final 2024, as well as representing England national football team in the final of UEFA Euro 2024.
Speaking after signing the new deal, Mainoo highlighted his deep connection to the club.
“Manchester United has always been my home; this special club means everything to my family.
“I have grown up seeing the impact that our club has on our city, and I relish the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.
“From The Cliff, to Littleton Road, to Carrington and ultimately Old Trafford, the journey so far has been incredible. I have the privilege of living my dream every single day, with the same relentless desire to succeed here as when I joined my first training session at the age of six.
“We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”
The club’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised the midfielder’s development and potential.
“Kobbie is one of the most naturally gifted young footballers in the world.
“His technical ability, dedicated professionalism and humble personality make him the perfect role model for our young players and a true credit to our outstanding Academy system.
“We are delighted that Kobbie has extended his stay here and have full confidence that he will develop into one of the best players in the world, ready to play a pivotal role in a Manchester United team challenging for the biggest honours.”
Mainoo’s contract extension is seen as part of Manchester United’s broader strategy to build around emerging talent developed within its academy system. His progression from youth ranks to first-team regular underscores the club’s long-standing emphasis on nurturing homegrown players.
With his future now secured, attention will turn to Mainoo’s continued development and his role in the club’s ambitions in domestic and European competitions in the years ahead.
