Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the permanent departures of Ashley du Preez and Given Msimango, with both players joining Stellenbosch FC as the club’s squad overhaul continues ahead of the new season.
The Soweto giants announced Msimango’s move to the Cape Winelands side on Tuesday, before confirming that striker Du Preez had also completed a permanent transfer.
Both players had seen limited game time over the past year, leading to continued uncertainty about their futures during the current transfer window.
Msimango joined Kaizer Chiefs from TS Galaxy before the 2023-24 season and made 53 official appearances for the club across all competitions.
“Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango has joined Stellenbosch FC. Msimango, who joined Chiefs from TS Galaxy ahead of the 2023/24 season, made a strong impact during his time at Naturena,” the club said in a statement.
“The 29-year-old international featured in 53 official matches across all competitions, bringing leadership and consistency to Amakhosi’s backline.”
Du Preez’s departure further reduces the attacking options available to manager Fernando Da Cruz, as Kaizer Chiefs continue reshaping their squad during the transfer window.
The club had already released George Matlou, Happy Mashiane, Gaston Sirino and Tashreeq Morris. Midfielder Samkelo Zwane and goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari were sent out on loan, while defender Aden McCarthy and winger Glody Lilepo were sold.
Despite the Betway Premiership season already being under way, Kaizer Chiefs may not have completed their transfer business. The club is expected to pursue further signings before the window closes, while additional departures remain possible.
One player whose future remains uncertain is midfielder Thabo Cele. The 28-year-old has struggled to secure regular game time and has reportedly fallen out of Da Cruz’s plans.
Cele joined Kaizer Chiefs only 18 months ago, but could now leave Naturena as the club continues to reduce and restructure its squad.
The departures of Msimango and Du Preez are the latest moves in what has become a significant period of change for Kaizer Chiefs. With fresh additions still expected and other players potentially on their way out, further transfer activity is likely before the deadline.
