Zimbabwe will have a significant presence in South Africa’s 2026/27 Betway Premiership, with established Warriors internationals and emerging talents expected to play important roles for their clubs.
From title contenders to players seeking a breakthrough season, five Zimbabwean footballers could attract particular attention during the campaign.
Daniel Msendami – Orlando Pirates
Daniel Msendami begins the new season among Zimbabwe’s most closely watched prospects after joining defending champions Orlando Pirates from Marumo Gallants earlier this year.
The forward made a strong impression during his time in the Betway Premiership and also delivered notable performances for Zimbabwe, known as the Warriors. Those displays helped earn him a move to the Soweto club, although his first campaign proved difficult as he competed for minutes in a squad packed with quality.
Msendami’s adjustment to Orlando Pirates was made even more demanding by the personal loss of his child during the season. He will now hope for greater involvement as the champions attempt to retain their title and compete for further honours.
Devine Lunga – Mamelodi Sundowns
Devine Lunga remains one of Zimbabwe’s most reliable players in South African football and is set to continue at Mamelodi Sundowns.
The experienced left-back has established himself at the club and will again be expected to provide defensive stability while supporting attacks from the left side. His composure, consistency and understanding of the game have made him an important figure for both Sundowns and the Warriors.
Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to challenge for domestic honours once more, giving Lunga another chance to add to an already growing collection of medals.
Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya – Amazulu FC
Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya will be aiming to build on his reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s most promising attacking players during the 2026/27 season.
The Amazulu FC forward has demonstrated a capacity to score and uses his pace and movement to cause problems for opposing defences. A productive campaign could bring interest from some of the Betway Premiership’s bigger clubs, while also strengthening his case for a regular place in the Warriors squad.
Greater consistency in front of goal will be crucial if Ngwenya is to make the next significant advance in his career.
Juan Mutudza – Polokwane City
Juan Mutudza is looking to establish himself as one of Zimbabwe’s leading performers in South Africa.
The Polokwane City midfielder is recognised for his technical quality, vision and creativity. Those attributes give him the ability to break down defences and influence matches in the final third.
A quick adaptation to the demands of the new campaign, combined with regular high-level performances, could see Mutudza emerge as one of the league’s breakthrough Zimbabwean players.
Tatenda Tavengwa – Kruger United
Tatenda Tavengwa starts the season determined to make a lasting impression with Kruger United.
The Zimbabwean youngster has an opportunity to establish himself among the Betway Premiership’s rising talents and become an important member of his club’s squad. Strong displays could also improve his prospects of receiving further opportunities with the Warriors.
The 2026/27 Betway Premiership is expected to deliver another fiercely contested campaign, and Zimbabwean supporters will have several players to follow across South Africa.
Msendami will be pursuing trophies with Orlando Pirates, while Lunga will seek more silverware with Mamelodi Sundowns. Ngwenya, Mutudza and Tavengwa, meanwhile, will be looking to use the season to advance their careers and strengthen their claims at international level.
