Ivorian defender Mohamed attracts Marseille and Anderlecht interest

  • Mubarak Haruna
  • April 4, 2026

Rising Ivorian defender Yéo Mohamed is set to travel to France for a trial with Olympique de Marseille, in what could prove a defining moment in his young career.

The 17-year-old, who currently plays for Union Sportive du Tchologo, has attracted growing attention from European scouts following his recent development and performances at youth level.

His progress was further highlighted by his inclusion in Ivory Coast’s Under-20 squad during the March international window, under the guidance of coach Younes Zerdouk.

The call-up is seen as recognition of his potential and a sign of his steady rise through the ranks.

Now, the young centre-back is preparing for what could be his biggest opportunity yet.

Reports indicate that Marseille have expressed concrete interest in the player and are expected to assess him during an upcoming trial in France.

The Ligue 1 side, known for its competitive environment and history of developing talent, could offer Yéo Mohamed a pathway into European football if he impresses during his time at the club.

However, Marseille are not the only club monitoring the teenager.

Interest has also emerged from Belgium, where RSC Anderlecht are said to be keen on the player.

The Brussels-based club has reportedly extended an invitation for a separate trial, underlining the level of attention surrounding the young defender.

For many observers, this dual interest reflects a broader trend of European clubs turning to Africa in search of emerging talent.

Ivory Coast, in particular, continues to produce players capable of transitioning to the highest levels of the game, with youth prospects increasingly gaining exposure on the international stage.

Yéo Mohamed’s profile as a centre-back adds to his appeal.

At a time when modern defenders are expected to combine physical strength with composure on the ball, his development has positioned him as a promising option for clubs looking to invest in the future.

Should his trial prove successful, the teenager could be on course to sign his first professional contract in the coming months.

Such a move would represent a major step forward, shifting him from domestic football into a more demanding and competitive European environment.

Back home, his progress is also a source of encouragement for local football structures, particularly Union Sportive du Tchologo, which appears to be emerging as a platform for young talent aiming to break into international football.

Marseille, meanwhile, continue their domestic campaign and are scheduled to face AS Monaco in their upcoming league fixture.

But beyond immediate results, the club’s interest in prospects like Yéo Mohamed highlights a longer-term focus on identifying and nurturing young players.
