Newly promoted Premier League club Ipswich Town have reached a verbal agreement with Leicester City to sign Ghana international Fatawu Issahaku in a deal reported to be worth around £20m.
According to UK-based talkSPORT, the two clubs have agreed the framework of the transfer, with the 21-year-old expected to undergo a medical examination next week before completing the move.
If finalised, the transfer would represent one of Ipswich Town’s most significant signings ahead of their return to the Premier League, as the club continues to strengthen its squad for the challenges of the new season.
Fatawu arrives on the back of an impressive individual campaign with Leicester City despite the club’s inability to preserve its Premier League status.
The Ghanaian winger was among Leicester’s most influential players during the 2025-26 Championship season, contributing consistently in attack over the course of the campaign.
He scored nine league goals and registered eight assists in 44 Championship appearances, establishing himself as one of the club’s standout performers.
Although his displays helped Leicester remain competitive throughout the season, they were ultimately insufficient to secure the club’s survival, leaving uncertainty over the futures of several key players.
Fatawu’s performances have since attracted interest from a number of clubs, but Ipswich Town have moved quickly to secure a verbal agreement with Leicester before the start of the new Premier League campaign.
The proposed move would provide the Ghana international with another opportunity to compete in England’s top division.
Ipswich, who secured promotion to the Premier League, have been working to reinforce their squad ahead of their return to the top flight, with Fatawu identified as a player capable of strengthening their attacking options.
The reported agreement now leaves the medical examination and the completion of the remaining formalities before the transfer can be finalised.
Should those steps proceed as expected, the winger will become one of the club’s marquee arrivals during the current transfer window.
For Ipswich, the signing would represent another statement of intent as they prepare for life back in the Premier League and seek to assemble a squad capable of competing at the highest level of English football.
For Fatawu, the move would offer the chance to continue his development while testing himself once again against Premier League opposition.
The winger enhanced his reputation through his performances during the 2025-26 campaign, combining goals with creativity to emerge as one of Leicester City’s most productive attacking players.
His ability to contribute both as a scorer and provider made him an important figure throughout the Championship season and helped generate interest from multiple clubs.
Ipswich’s swift approach appears to have placed them in pole position to secure his services, with only the completion of the medical and final administrative procedures remaining before the transfer is officially confirmed.
If the deal is completed, Fatawu will begin the next chapter of his career at a club preparing for its first Premier League season following promotion, while Ipswich will add another promising Ghana international to a squad being reshaped for the demands of top-flight football.
