Leeds United’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal at Highbury on 4 May 2003 remains one of the most memorable results in the club’s Premier League history. Mark Viduka scored the decisive goal late in the match, but how many members of Peter Reid’s starting XI can you remember?
The defeat came on the penultimate weekend of the season and confirmed that Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal would finish runners-up for a third consecutive campaign.
Arsenal responded in remarkable fashion the following season, winning the title unbeaten. Their loss to Leeds was their final league defeat before a controversial 2-0 away defeat by Manchester United in 2004.
For Leeds, the result was crucial. Victory in north London ensured they would survive for another season, although it ultimately proved to be a final high point before their relegation the following year.
The match began with Leeds taking the lead through Viduka’s strike partner, who produced an excellent finish. Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp both scored for the hosts, but Leeds went ahead for a third and final time when Viduka found the winning goal late on.
Viduka is included in the challenge, leaving 10 other players to identify from the team that secured the famous victory. The result remains Leeds’ last away win against Arsenal, as well as their last victory over the Gunners at any venue.
Leeds later spent 18 years outside the top flight and have not made frequent appearances at The Emirates, but the memory of their success at Highbury continues to stand out among the club’s most iconic Premier League achievements.
The quiz also offers another challenge for Leeds supporters: naming every player to appear for the club under Marcelo Bielsa.
