Senegal international Idrissa Gueye is set to leave Everton and join Saudi Pro League newcomers Al-Diriyah ahead of the new season.
The 36-year-old midfielder has reportedly reached an agreement with the Saudi club on a one-year contract, which includes an option to extend the deal by a further season.
The transfer is expected to be completed in the coming days, bringing an end to Gueye’s second spell at Everton, where he re-established himself as a key figure in midfield following his return from Paris Saint-Germain.
Distinguished career
Gueye has enjoyed a successful career across Europe, representing Lille, Aston Villa, Paris Saint-Germain and Everton.
Known for his work rate, defensive intelligence and ball-winning ability, he has consistently been one of Senegal’s most reliable midfielders.
At international level, Gueye played a central role in Senegal’s historic triumph at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, lifted in 2022, when the Teranga Lions secured their first continental title.
Saudi challenge awaits
A move to Al-Diriyah would see Gueye become one of the latest experienced players to continue his career in Saudi Arabia, as the country’s clubs continue to strengthen their squads ahead of the new campaign.
Al-Diriyah are expected to confirm the signing officially once the remaining paperwork and formalities have been completed.
