Uganda name final squad for CECAFA U20 Championship qualifiers

Uganda U-20 head coach Laryea Kingston has named his final squad for the CECAFA U20 Championship qualifiers, which will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on 15 September 2026 and will run until 24 September, with Uganda travelling to Tanzania with a 19-player squad.

FUFA Executive Committee Member Frank Ankunzire will serve as the leader of delegation, while Kingston will oversee the team as head coach.

The squad includes two goalkeepers, eight defenders, five midfielders and five forwards.

Adrian Isabirye of BUL FC and Lugazi FC’s Batali Igama have been selected as the goalkeeping options.

The defensive group features Mimosa Yashir of the University of California in the United States, alongside KCCA FC defender Kawuki Hakim and Elvis Opakrwoth of St. Mary’s Kitende.

NEC FC’s Wandera Hakim is also included, as are Steven Oyirwoth of UNC Mens Soccer in the United States, Meddy Mutamba of Busoga United FC, and SC Villa pair Gilbert Ogenrwot and Mangoli Raymond.

In midfield, Kingston has selected Amour Munogera and Owino Brian, both from Vipers SC, with Owino listed as a Vipers SC JT player. Isma Magala of Masaka Sunshine, genesis Odiya of NK Tabor Sezana and Ashraf Kyakuwa of Vipers SC JT complete the midfield selection.

The attacking options are Nkoola Arafat of Vipers SC, BUL FC forward Okello Richard, Joseph Ssenyondwa of AC Amager, and Bukedea Comprehensive players Ssozi Derrick and Wanyama Simon.

Kingston will be supported by assistant coach Ssemuyaba Bashir, while Kiggundu Stephen Billy has been appointed goalkeeping coach. Kizito Denis will work as the fitness coach and Kulika Ivan will serve as team doctor.

The wider technical and administrative team also includes kits manager Bumpenje Frank, team manager Brian Umony and media officer Talenga Andrew.

Ankunzire Frank will lead the delegation for Uganda’s campaign.

With the final squad now confirmed, the Ugandan side is set to compete in the CECAFA U20 Championship qualifiers during the tournament’s nine-day schedule in Dar es Salaam.

The competition starts on 15 September and concludes on 24 September 2026.
