Paris Saint-Germain target Ismaëlo Ganiou after standout season with RC Lens

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly identified Ismaëlo Ganiou as one of their priority defensive targets after the young centre-back emerged as one of Ligue 1’s most impressive defenders this season with RC Lens.

The 21-year-old has attracted growing attention following a campaign in which he established himself as a key figure in Lens’ defence, with his performances reportedly convincing PSG coach Luis Enrique to support a move for the player.

According to reports from Spain, discussions have already begun between the two clubs over a potential transfer that could reach close to €40 million, highlighting the rapid rise in Ganiou’s reputation across French football.

The defender remains under contract with Lens until June 2028, placing the northern French club in a strong negotiating position.

Lens are reportedly reluctant to part ways with one of their brightest talents, especially with club officials believing the defender’s value could continue rising if he remains for another season.

Ganiou’s development has been one of the major success stories of the Ligue 1 campaign.

Physically dominant, calm under pressure and increasingly comfortable in possession, the Burkinabe defender has evolved from a promising prospect into one of the league’s most reliable young centre-backs.

His performances have reportedly impressed Luis Enrique, who is keen to reinforce PSG’s defence ahead of another demanding domestic and European campaign.

The Spanish coach is believed to value Ganiou’s athleticism, composure and tactical intelligence, qualities viewed as ideal for PSG’s long-term project.

The defender has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season and contributed three goals, underlining not only his defensive consistency but also his growing impact in attacking situations.

Even against some of Ligue 1’s strongest attacking sides, Ganiou has shown maturity beyond his age through strong positioning, anticipation and composure in one-on-one duels.

PSG’s interest also reflects the club’s wider recruitment strategy of investing in emerging players capable of becoming long-term pillars of the squad.

A move to Paris would nevertheless represent a major step in the young defender’s career, bringing increased pressure and competition at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

For now, Lens remain in control thanks to Ganiou’s long-term contract, but with PSG intensifying their interest and Luis Enrique reportedly approving the move personally, speculation surrounding the defender’s future is expected to continue growing ahead of the summer transfer window.
