Hassane Kamara earns contract extension despite injury-hit season at Udinese

Udinese have moved quickly to shape their plans for next season by extending the contract of Ivory Coast international Hassane Kamara, reaffirming their confidence in one of the club’s most experienced players despite an injury-disrupted campaign.

The Serie A side announced that the 32-year-old left-back will remain with the club until June 2027, ending speculation surrounding his future and ensuring continuity as Udinese begin preparations for another season in Italy’s top flight.

The decision comes shortly after the conclusion of a campaign in which Udinese finished 10th in Serie A.

As the club seeks to build a squad capable of improving on that position, retaining key figures has become a central part of its strategy.

Kamara’s previous contract had been due to expire in June 2026, leading to uncertainty over whether he would remain in Friuli.

However, the club has opted to extend his stay, underlining the value it places on both his experience and leadership.

For African football supporters, the move is another example of the enduring influence of experienced players from the continent in Europe’s leading leagues.

While younger African talents often dominate transfer headlines, Kamara’s extension highlights the importance clubs continue to place on proven performers capable of contributing on and off the pitch.

The Ivorian defender has become an established figure at Udinese since arriving in 2022.

Over the years, he has developed into a regular member of the squad and an important presence within the dressing room.

Although his most recent season was affected by injuries, the club’s management clearly believes his contribution extends beyond statistics alone.

Reports in recent months had suggested Kamara could leave Udinese at the end of the season.

Those rumours have now been put to rest, with the club instead choosing to offer him another year.

The decision reflects confidence in a player whose professionalism and experience are viewed as valuable assets as Udinese looks to strengthen its position in Serie A.

During the recently concluded campaign, Kamara made 26 league appearances and contributed two assists.

While those numbers may not place him among the division’s most productive defenders, they underline his continued involvement in the team despite fitness challenges.

His ability to operate as either a traditional left-back or a wing-back has also provided tactical flexibility for the coaching staff.

Kamara’s career has taken him through several European leagues. Before joining Udinese, he played for English club Watford and built a reputation as a reliable defender capable of adapting to different systems and styles of play.

Born in France, he chose to represent Ivory Coast at international level and has since become one of the country’s most recognisable defenders.

According to available figures, the defender is currently valued at around €3 million and earns an annual salary of approximately €1.15 million.
