Ghana have begun discussions with former Germany manager Joachim Low about taking over as head coach of the national team, following the departure of Otto Addo per reports.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is understood to have held initial talks with the experienced coach, with early indications suggesting a positive response from both sides.
Low is said to be open to the possibility of leading the Black Stars as the country steps up its preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Sources close to the discussions say the 2014 World Cup-winning manager is currently reviewing key aspects of the role. These include an assessment of Ghana’s playing squad, the existing technical framework, and the broader long-term ambitions set out by the GFA.
Low, who guided Germany to victory at the 2014 World Cup, is widely recognised for his experience at the highest level of international football. His track record of managing elite players is believed to have strengthened his candidacy as Ghana seek to appoint a new head coach.
The move comes at a time when Ghana’s football governing body is attempting to rebuild the national side after a run of disappointing performances in recent international matches. With limited time before the next phase of international fixtures, the GFA is keen to make an appointment swiftly.
Attention is also turning towards Ghana’s upcoming challenge on the global stage. The Black Stars have been drawn into a difficult group for the 2026 World Cup, where they will face England, Croatia and Panama.
Securing a manager with significant tournament experience is therefore seen as a priority, as Ghana aims to improve its competitiveness against strong opposition.
Further discussions between the GFA and Low are expected to focus on several critical areas. These include the terms of any potential contract, the composition of his technical staff, and short-term performance objectives tied to upcoming fixtures and tournament preparation.
The GFA is reportedly eager to conclude negotiations as soon as possible, with the next international window approaching. A timely appointment would allow the new coach to begin work immediately, including evaluating players and implementing tactical plans ahead of crucial matches.
While no agreement has yet been finalised, the ongoing talks signal a clear intent from Ghana’s football leadership to secure an experienced figure capable of guiding the national team through a period of transition and into the next World Cup cycle.
