From Eindhoven to the Atlas Lions: Saibari emerges as Morocco’s next big influence

In Eindhoven, Ismaël Saibari has moved from promising talent to central figure.

The Moroccan midfielder’s season with PSV Eindhoven has been the most productive of his career so far, ending with 19 goals and nine assists in all competitions as his side lifted the Dutch league title.

At 25, Saibari is no longer viewed as a developing prospect but as a decisive presence in PSV’s system.

His contribution has not only been measured in numbers, but also in influence, with his performances consistently shaping matches during a successful domestic campaign.

His rise has been recognised formally in the Netherlands, where he was named Eredivisie Player of the Season.

PSV head coach Peter Bosz has been among his strongest admirers, describing him as a “complete player” with a rare blend of physical strength, technical quality and tactical intelligence.

Saibari’s journey has been one of gradual progression.

Developed in Belgium before joining PSV’s academy, he has steadily climbed the ranks in Eindhoven.

Initially introduced as a versatile option, he is now a key part of the club’s attacking structure, capable of operating across midfield and advanced roles.

That adaptability has become one of his defining traits.

Whether deployed centrally or in more advanced positions, Saibari has shown an ability to arrive in dangerous areas, link play and provide end product at crucial moments. It is a profile that has strengthened his importance both at club level and with Morocco.

On the international stage, Saibari has earned 29 caps and scored nine goals for the Atlas Lions.

His role within the national team has grown in parallel with his club development, and he is increasingly seen as part of Morocco’s next core generation following their historic run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals.

His impact was underlined earlier this month when he scored twice in Morocco’s 4-0 friendly win over Madagascar.

The midfielder set the tone early, heading in a fourth-minute corner delivered by Bilal El Khannouss before adding a second goal in the 24th minute after capitalising on a defensive error.

The performance reinforced his growing reputation as a player capable of influencing high-pressure games, particularly as Morocco build towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Attention is also growing around his future at club level.

Reports suggest interest from major European sides, with Bayern Munich highlighted as a potential destination, alongside previous links to clubs in Italy and England. For now, however, Saibari remains central to PSV’s ambitions and Morocco’s plans.

Morocco’s World Cup Group C fixtures will take place across the United States, with matches against Brazil in New York/New Jersey on June 13, Scotland in Boston on June 19, and Haiti in Atlanta on June 24.

Saibari’s form suggests he will enter the tournament not as a supporting player, but as one of Morocco’s key attacking outlets.
