Ali Mahmoud has praised Zamalek SC for what he described as a remarkable season, despite the challenges the club faced, while also identifying a group of young players he believes could soon rise to prominence in Egyptian football.
Speaking in an interview on ON Sport FM’s Nile League Stars programme with journalist Ahmed Al-Masry, the ENPPI Club midfielder highlighted the resilience shown by Zamalek throughout the campaign.
He said the team exceeded expectations despite ongoing difficulties, adding that supporters played a decisive role in their performances. Mahmoud also placed Zamalek among the standout teams of the season, alongside Wadi Degla SC and Ceramica Cleopatra FC.
Praise for coaching impact and standout performers
Mahmoud reserved particular praise for Hamza Al-Gamal, describing him as the leading coach of the season.
He said the coach had transformed his team’s approach and delivered a distinctive campaign under difficult circumstances. Mahmoud also spoke about his own ambitions, expressing a desire to move into European football and represent Egypt at international level.
Turning to individual performances, he singled out Juan Bezerra as the standout player in Egypt at present, describing him as a unique talent compared to his peers.
“European player” label for Shakshak
Mahmoud also reflected on former teammate Mustafa Shakshak, underlining the impact he had both during and after his time with the team.
“I miss Mustafa Shakshak a lot. His potential and abilities are very great. He is a European player, with great potential, speed, strength and skills. During his time with us, he made a difference, and after his departure as well. I wish him success.”
The comments suggest Mahmoud views Shakshak as a player capable of competing at a higher level, highlighting his physical attributes and technical ability.
Young quartet tipped for future success
Looking ahead, Mahmoud identified four emerging players he believes could soon become leading figures in Egyptian football: Aqtai, Hamed Abdullah, Sharqia and Mohab Sami.
He emphasised that their age is a crucial advantage, suggesting they have the time and potential to develop into top-tier performers in the domestic game.
Optimism for Egyptian football’s next generation
Mahmoud’s remarks offer insight into both the current state and future direction of Egyptian football. While acknowledging the achievements of established clubs and players this season, he also pointed to a new generation that could shape the game in the years ahead.
With Zamalek’s campaign drawing praise despite adversity and young talents emerging across the league, his comments reflect cautious optimism about the continued development of football in Egypt.
