Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will have surgery on a jaw injury after being taken to hospital following a collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, according to TyC Sports reporter Gaston Edul.
The incident occurred in the second half of the match, when Martinez and Branthwaite clashed heads. The goalkeeper was subsequently carried from the pitch on a stretcher before being taken to hospital.
Edul initially reported that Martinez was in good condition and conscious. A CT scan of his head, along with examinations of his back and neck, found no problems.
However, the goalkeeper was kept in hospital because of the injury to his jawbone. Edul later provided a further update on Martinez’s condition.
“The results of several key tests were all reassuring. The relatively minor concern is an injury to his lower jaw, for which he will undergo surgery,” he said.
