Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly agreed a deal with Belgian champions Club Brugge to sign Nigeria international midfielder Raphael Onyedika for about €9m.
The Bundesliga club are understood to have finally secured their main midfield target after pursuing the 25-year-old for an extended period. Onyedika is expected to complete a medical early next week before putting pen to paper on a contract that would keep him at Frankfurt until 2030.
The proposed move would bring an end to Frankfurt’s lengthy pursuit of the Nigerian midfielder, who has emerged as a key target for the German side.
According to footmercato.net, Frankfurt have now reached an agreement with Club Brugge over the transfer after previously attempting to take the player to Germany during the last summer transfer window.
On that occasion, the Bundesliga club reportedly explored a deal that would have seen Onyedika initially join on loan, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent. However, Club Brugge were not prepared to lose one of their important players at the time.
The Belgian champions instead retained the midfielder, who continued to play an important role for the club.
Onyedika’s performances during the 2025/26 season subsequently renewed Frankfurt’s interest in signing him. The German club returned for the Nigeria international as they sought to strengthen their midfield options.
The 25-year-old’s form also attracted interest from elsewhere, with Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad making an official proposal for his services.
However, Frankfurt now appear to have moved ahead of their competition and are reportedly close to completing the signing of the Nigerian midfielder.
The agreement with Club Brugge is said to be worth around €9m, with the final stages of the transfer expected to take place next week when Onyedika undergoes his medical.
If he successfully completes the medical and signs the proposed contract, the midfielder will begin a new chapter in the Bundesliga, with his deal set to run until 2030.
Frankfurt’s pursuit of Onyedika highlights the club’s continued determination to secure a player they have been monitoring for some time. Their initial attempt to sign him last summer did not succeed, but the German side returned to the negotiating table after another strong season from the Nigerian.
Club Brugge’s decision to reject Frankfurt’s earlier approach reflected the importance of Onyedika to their squad. However, after the midfielder’s continued development and impressive 2025/26 campaign, the Belgian club now appear ready to sanction his departure.
The reported agreement also means Al Ittihad’s efforts to sign the midfielder could fall short, despite the Saudi club submitting an official offer.
For Onyedika, the proposed move to Frankfurt would represent a significant step in his career and provide him with the opportunity to continue his development in the Bundesliga.
The transfer is not yet fully completed, with the medical and contract signing still to come. However, Frankfurt are reportedly now in pole position to secure the Nigerian international’s signature after finally reaching an agreement with Club Brugge.
The midfielder is expected to undergo his medical early next week, after which he could sign a long-term contract with the German club and bring Frankfurt’s prolonged pursuit of their preferred midfield target to a conclusion.
