De Rossi sees Genoa progress despite Roma defeat

Genoa coach Daniele De Rossi believes his side’s performance against Roma showed they are making progress and said several returning players will strengthen their fight for survival.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset after the defeat, De Rossi highlighted Genoa’s disciplined display, particularly during the opening stages of the match.

“At halftime, I praised the lads; we executed the game plan very strictly and played exactly as I asked. Being able to compete on equal terms for 45 to 50 minutes against a team made up of strong players is something to reflect on,” he said.

De Rossi added that Genoa’s development represented an encouraging sign for the league and suggested this campaign could follow a different path from previous seasons.

“I think this is a very good sign for our league, and I feel this season will be different from previous ones,” he said.

The Genoa coach compared the performance with the team’s earlier meeting with Lazio, saying his players had been slower in that match two months ago. He stressed, however, that opponents bring different challenges and have their own styles.

“Two months ago against Lazio, we were much slower, but every team has its own characteristics,” De Rossi said.

Genoa are also expecting several players to return from absence, with De Rossi confident their availability will provide his team with an important boost as they continue their battle to avoid relegation.

“We are growing and will also welcome back several players who will give us a boost in our fight for survival,” he said.

De Rossi also pointed to Internazionale’s ability to recover from a difficult start as evidence of how quickly strong teams can change the course of a match.

“Internazionale are a very strong team. We saw Internazionale start poorly in Bologna and then complete a comeback. It’s interesting to see these teams improve in such a way,” he said.
