Marc Cucurella’s performance for Real Madrid in the El Clasico victory over Barcelona attracted attention on the pitch, while a cryptic social media post from his wife Claudia Rodriguez sparked further interest afterwards.
The Spanish full-back produced a strong defensive display at Camp Nou as Real Madrid secured a 2-1 win. His main task was to limit the influence of Lamine Yamal, and he was able to restrict the Barcelona winger’s opportunities throughout the match.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Cucurella was one of the key factors behind Real Madrid’s success. He repeatedly closed down the spaces in front of him, making it difficult for Yamal to break through the side of the pitch occupied by the defender.
Cucurella’s appearance in a Real Madrid shirt at Barcelona’s home ground also provoked an angry reaction from sections of the home support. He was booed whenever he touched the ball during the match.
His wife, Claudia Rodriguez, watched the game from the stands and celebrated her husband’s victory. She later shared several images from the aftermath on Instagram, including a video call between the pair once the match had finished.
However, the post that attracted the most attention showed a piece of clothing Cucurella had taken with him to Barcelona. Rodriguez described it as a special good-luck charm and added the message: “Only the real ones will understand.”
She did not offer any further explanation, although she has previously discussed the significance of the item and her husband’s superstitious nature.
Rodriguez has said that Cucurella tends to be pessimistic, which is why she makes sure he takes one of his sleeping garments with him when travelling for away matches. She keeps her perfume on the clothing so that he can feel close to her despite being apart.
This was not the first occasion on which Cucurella had relied on the same routine. He also took the item with him during the European Championship and the World Cup, and previously asked on social media whether it might be the secret behind his success.
The accompanying fixture listings included Barcelona in La Liga on 31 October 2026, as well as Deportivo Alaves against Racing Santander in La Liga on 01 November 2026. Real Madrid was also listed.
