Napoli manager Max Allegri has been suspended for two matches and fined €10,000 ($11,200) after being sent off during Saturday’s 3-3 Serie A draw with AS Roma.
The league’s sports judge said Allegri had made an “abusive remark towards the match officials” and later “adopted an aggressive attitude towards an official of the opposing team”.
Allegri was dismissed shortly after Leonardo Balerdi scored a late equaliser for Roma at Napoli’s home ground. The manager believed a foul had been committed in the build-up, but his angry reaction continued after VAR confirmed the goal.
The ban means Allegri will miss Napoli’s Serie A match at Monza on Wednesday and their home fixture against Juventus on Sunday. Napoli are 10th in the table and have won only one of their past four league matches.
Napoli said in a statement that they would appeal against the punishment.
The disciplinary decision said the incidents were reported by fourth official Juan Luca Sacchi and referee Andrea Colombo, as well as officials from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.
“Offences (were) noted by the fourth official (Juan Luca Sacchi) and the referee (Andrea Colombo), and the latter by officials from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office,” the sports judge said in the decision published on the league’s website.
Allegri denied abusing the officials in a post-match interview with DAZN Italia.
“The fourth official called the referee and got me sent off, but I said absolutely nothing,” he said.
