Chidozie Awaziem is poised to end his time at FC Nantes and continue his career in Turkey, with the Nigeria defender expected to join Konyaspor on a long-term deal.
The 29-year-old centre-back has been unhappy with the automatic salary reduction triggered by Nantes’ relegation to Ligue 2 and is now closing in on a move away from the French club.
French outlet L’Equipe, confirming an earlier report from Ouest-France, says Awaziem is set to sign for Konyaspor on a contract running until June 2028.
The transfer is expected to bring in around €1m for Nantes, who dropped into the second tier at the end of last season and are reshaping their squad following relegation.
Awaziem had been recruited to bolster the Nantes defence but will not extend his stay on the banks of the Erdre after the club’s demotion to Ligue 2.
The switch to Konyaspor will mark the latest step in the Nigerian’s career and a fresh start in the Turkish league, while Nantes lose an experienced central defender as they prepare for life outside the French top flight.
