Chelsea enter the race to sign Borussia Dortmund teenager Mathis Albert

Chelsea have joined a group of leading European clubs interested in Borussia Dortmund’s 17-year-old American winger Mathis Albert.

Albert is regarded as one of the most promising young players to emerge from the USA and recently made his international debut under Mauricio Pochettino.

According to Football Transfers, Chelsea are now competing for the teenager’s signature, with several other major European clubs also monitoring his situation.

Albert has made only one Bundesliga appearance for Borussia Dortmund this season. He came on as a substitute during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Union Berlin on 17 October.

His limited first-team involvement has reportedly raised fears within Dortmund that they could lose the young winger.

Sky Germany has also reported that the German club are at risk of seeing Albert depart because of his lack of playing minutes.

Chelsea’s interest follows an approach from Paris St-Germain, with Albert having come close to joining the French club last summer.

Manchester City are also understood to be willing to compete for the player, while both they and Chelsea could potentially pay as much as €20 million for him in January this year.
