Celtic interested in Egypt winger Haitham Hassan after World Cup breakthrough

Scottish champions Celtic FC are reportedly interested in signing Egyptian winger Haitham Hassan after his impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 23-year-old emerged as one of Egypt national football team’s brightest players during the tournament, earning praise for his pace, creativity and attacking ability.

Hassan caught the attention of scouts during Egypt’s dramatic Round of 16 encounter against Argentina national football team, where the Pharaohs suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat despite taking a two-goal lead against the defending champions.

The winger played a key role in Egypt’s performance, contributing to their second goal as they looked set to secure a historic place in the World Cup quarter-finals before Argentina completed a stunning comeback.

According to reports from Daily Record, Celtic are monitoring Hassan as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

The report claims the winger’s release clause has been reduced from £16 million to £10 million, making him a more realistic target for clubs interested in securing his services.

Hassan currently plays for Real Oviedo, who are reportedly willing to consider offers for the Egyptian international after the adjustment to his contract terms.

Despite the £10 million clause, reports suggest a deal could potentially be completed for a fee closer to £4 million, with Spanish clubs often including high release clauses that do not always represent a player’s actual market value.

Celtic are believed to see Hassan as a player who could bring pace, direct running and creativity to their forward line as they prepare for both domestic competition and European football.

The winger’s reputation has grown significantly following his World Cup displays, with his performance against Argentina particularly boosting his profile among clubs across Europe.

Hassan featured in 37 matches for Real Oviedo last season, providing three assists, and his tournament performances are expected to increase interest in his signature during the current transfer window.

Any potential move would also benefit Villarreal CF, who reportedly hold a 40 percent share of any future transfer fee received by Oviedo.

With Celtic among the clubs keeping a close watch, Hassan’s future is expected to be one of the transfer stories to follow as clubs look to act on players who impressed at the World Cup.
