Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana could remain at Trabzonspor

Cameroon international Andre Onana could remain in Turkey beyond this summer after Trabzonspor stepped up efforts to extend the goalkeeper’s stay at the club.

The Turkish side are reportedly keen to retain Onana following his loan spell from Manchester United F.C. and have already submitted formal proposals to both the player and his parent club.

Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan in September after Manchester United reshaped their goalkeeping department with the arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. The agreement did not include an option to make the move permanent, leaving the goalkeeper’s future open at the end of the season.

Despite that uncertainty, Trabzonspor have made it clear that they would like the experienced shot-stopper to remain at the club for another campaign.

According to reports, the Turkish outfit have proposed a fresh loan agreement with improved financial terms in an effort to convince both Manchester United and the player to approve an extension.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper is understood to be assessing his options before making a final decision. With his long-term future at Old Trafford still unclear and regular playing time not guaranteed, the coming weeks could prove decisive for the former Ajax and Inter Milan goalkeeper.

Trabzonspor officials are reportedly willing to be patient but are also prepared to pursue alternative targets should Onana decide against continuing his career in Turkey.

Onana featured prominently during the 2025/26 season, making 33 appearances across all competitions for Trabzonspor. He kept six clean sheets and conceded 40 goals, while producing a number of performances that impressed the club’s hierarchy.

Although his statistical record was mixed, Trabzonspor remain convinced that the Cameroonian international can play a major role in their ambitions next season.

The club view Onana as an important figure both on and off the pitch and are eager to keep him at the heart of their project as they prepare for the new campaign.

For now, all parties are waiting on the goalkeeper’s decision, with Trabzonspor hopeful that their improved proposal will be enough to secure his services for at least one more season
