The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will next week evaluate FIFA’s proposed Forward Enterprise initiative after receiving official correspondence from world football’s governing body as part of an ongoing consultation process involving member associations and the FIFA Council.
CAF confirmed on Wednesday that its Executive Committee, led by president Dr Patrice Motsepe, will meet to assess and evaluate the proposal before the consultation process continues.
The African football governing body also called on its 54 member associations to examine the proposal and actively participate in the discussions in line with existing FIFA and CAF regulations.
The development comes as FIFA continues consulting football stakeholders over the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative, which has attracted attention across the global game.
According to CAF, the correspondence from FIFA forms part of a wider consultation process currently taking place with FIFA Member Associations and the FIFA Council before any decision is made.
“The Confederation Africaine de Football (“CAF”) received correspondence today from FIFA on the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative, in accordance with the consultation process that is currently underway with FIFA Member Associations and the FIFA Council,” CAF said.
The continental governing body confirmed that its leadership will now study the proposal in greater detail before contributing to the consultation.
“As part of this consultation process, the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, will host a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee next week, to inter-alia, assess and evaluate the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative.”
The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for CAF’s leadership to review the proposal and consider its potential implications for football administration and development across the African continent.
CAF also wants its member associations to play an active role during the consultation period, stressing that any engagement should follow the established procedures of both continental and global football authorities.
“CAF also encourages its Member Associations to examine the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal and participate in the consultation process in accordance with CAF and FIFA’s regulations and established procedures,” the statement added.
The organisation reiterated its commitment to working closely with FIFA, its member associations, other continental confederations and stakeholders to strengthen football development.
CAF said it remains committed to continued consultation and collaboration aimed at increasing financial and other resources to support the growth of football in Africa and around the world.
For African football, the consultation represents another opportunity for national associations to contribute to discussions that could influence future investment and development initiatives across the continent.
The proposal also arrives at a time when football governance continues to evolve, with governing bodies seeking new ways to generate resources for the sport.
