New FECOFA president Mosengo-Omba names executive committee after landslide victory

A new chapter has begun in Congolese football after Véron Mosengo-Omba was officially elected president of DR Congo Football Federation (FECOFA) and immediately unveiled the leadership team that will guide the organisation over the next four years.

Delegates meeting at the Pullman Hotel in Kinshasa on Wednesday handed the former CAF and FIFA official a commanding victory, with Mosengo-Omba receiving 60 of the 65 votes cast during the federation’s extraordinary elective general assembly.

The result confirmed the strong support behind the former Confederation of African Football secretary general, who now assumes responsibility for leading one of Africa’s most passionate football nations through a period of rebuilding and reform.

Shortly after his election, Mosengo-Omba presented the composition of FECOFA’s new executive committee, signalling what many observers see as the beginning of a new administrative era for football in DR Congo.

The newly elected president campaigned on a platform centred around structural reform and modernization within Congolese football, using the slogan: “Rebuild to structure, structure to win.”

His administration now faces the challenge of translating those ambitions into practical reforms at both national and domestic football levels.

At the top of the federation’s new leadership structure is a four-member vice-presidential team designed to support the president’s governance programme.

José Dayoni Wawa was elected First Vice-President, while Amadou Diaby takes the role of Second Vice-President.

The Third Vice-Presidency goes to Lolo Mosango, with Véronique Singa becoming Fourth Vice-President, adding female representation to the federation’s top leadership.

The wider executive committee also includes several influential figures from the Congolese sports landscape.

Those elected as members are Dieudonné Kashiko, Geneviève Lukusa, Solange Masumbuko, Chadrack Ngiama, Jean Kamuena, Innocent Lelo, Jeff Kapondo, Daudet Mputu, Adolphe Nkoy and Eric Kalala.

The formation of the new committee comes after months of uncertainty surrounding football governance in DR Congo.

FECOFA had previously been operating under a normalization committee following a prolonged period of administrative instability, making the election one of the most significant moments in recent Congolese football history.

For many supporters, the arrival of Mosengo-Omba represents an opportunity to restore confidence in the management of the game at a time when the national team is also enjoying renewed momentum.

The Leopards recently secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, increasing expectations around the federation’s ability to provide stronger administrative support and long-term planning.

Mosengo-Omba’s experience within continental football governance is viewed by many as a major advantage.

Having worked at both CAF and FIFA level, the new FECOFA president is expected to use his international experience to strengthen football structures in DR Congo and improve the federation’s credibility within African football circles.

Attention will now shift from the election process to implementation.
