Brighton’s Diego Gomez scores Premier League’s longest goal in nine years

Brighton midfielder Diego Gomez scored from 51 metres against Crystal Palace to register the Premier League’s longest-range goal since 2017.

The Paraguay international struck in the seventh minute of the seventh-round match, which is currently being played.

Opta reported that Gomez’s effort was the furthest goal scored in England’s top flight since Wayne Rooney found the net for Everton against West Ham from 58 metres nine years ago.

By the 80th minute, Brighton had scored four times against Crystal Palace.

If Fabian Hurzeler’s side hold on to win, they will move up to second place in the Premier League table.
