Nabil Bentaleb is facing one of the most important decisions of his career as the Algerian midfielder weighs several transfer possibilities ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 31-year-old, who currently plays for Lille OSC, is approaching the final weeks of his contract with the French side, with uncertainty surrounding where he will continue his career next season.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Bentaleb has three possible destinations under consideration, with clubs from Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey all interested in signing the Algeria international.
The midfielder’s current deal with Lille is due to expire on 30 June, although the French club have reportedly already presented him with an offer to extend his stay.
Despite that proposal, interest from abroad has intensified at a crucial moment for the player, who is eager to secure a place in Algeria’s World Cup squad.
Gulf Clubs and European Sides Show Interest
The report stated that one option could see Bentaleb move to the Qatari league, while two Saudi Pro League clubs are also monitoring his situation closely.
A third possibility would allow the midfielder to remain in European football. Turkish side Beşiktaş JK are said to have made an approach, while another club currently sitting among the top six in France’s Ligue 1 is also tracking the player.
The same source added that clubs from the lower half of the English Premier League table are observing developments as well.
The growing interest reflects Bentaleb’s performances during the current campaign, in which he has remained an important figure for Lille.
The Algerian midfielder has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and registering two assists while delivering consistent displays for the French club.
Focus Remains on Lille and World Cup Ambitions
Before making any final decision about his future, Bentaleb is concentrating on Lille’s final Ligue 1 fixture against AJ Auxerre.
The match represents a significant moment in Lille’s season, as the club seeks to secure third place in the league standings and guarantee qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Yet beyond club football, Bentaleb’s biggest ambition remains returning to the Algerian national team for the World Cup.
The midfielder missed the most recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco for disciplinary reasons and is currently considered among the players outside the preferred selections of Algeria coach Vladimir Petkovic.
Despite that situation, Bentaleb has reportedly expressed a strong desire to represent the “Greens” at the upcoming World Cup, which begins next month.
Veteran Hoping to Relive 2014 Memories
Bentaleb already has World Cup experience with Algeria, having been part of the squad during the 2014 tournament in Brazil.
That campaign remains one of the most memorable in Algerian football history, with the Desert Warriors reaching the round of 16 before suffering a 2-1 extra-time defeat against eventual world champions Germany national football team.
It was Algeria’s best performance at a World Cup and remains a reference point for many players of Bentaleb’s generation.
Now, with another global tournament approaching, the midfielder finds himself balancing club uncertainty with the hope of reviving his international career at the highest level.
