Bayern Munich explain Vincent Kompany’s absence from post-match media duties

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany missed his usual post-match interview with Sky and the subsequent press conference after their 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig.

Sporting director Max Eberl said Kompany had been suffering from an infection throughout the week before developing an injury in the hip area shortly before kick-off.

The Belgian coach appeared unusually subdued during the match, celebrating Bayern’s goals with far less emotion than usual. He remained seated on the bench for much of the game and gave instructions from the touchline less frequently.

Kompany’s condition meant he had to cancel both his customary Sky interview and his press conference after Bayern completed a convincing win.

The result left Bayern Munich top of the table with 14 points. Borussia Dortmund have the same total, while Freiburg are on 13 points with a game in hand.
