Bamba Dieng to leave FC Lorient as European clubs circle for free transfer

FC Lorient will part ways with Senegalese striker Bamba Dieng this summer after the forward decided against renewing his contract with the Ligue 1 side.

The 26-year-old has informed the club of his intention to leave when his current deal expires, ending his spell in Brittany despite efforts from Lorient officials to convince him to stay.

Dieng is expected to become one of several attacking departures from the club, with fellow Senegalese forward Sambou Soumano also set to leave upon the expiration of his contract on July 1.

According to reports from Foot Mercato, Lorient had attempted in recent months to secure Dieng’s future, but the striker has now chosen to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.

His exit comes after an impressive resurgence during the season. Despite uncertainty surrounding his future last summer, Dieng rebuilt his place within the squad through strong and consistent performances.

The Senegal international finished the campaign with 16 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions, re-establishing himself as one of Lorient’s most effective attacking players.

His form has reportedly attracted interest from clubs in Spain, France, Germany and England ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

With his contract expiring, Dieng will now be available on a free transfer, a situation expected to increase competition among potential suitors across Europe.

While FC Lorient prepare to reshape their attacking department ahead of next season, Dieng appears ready for the next chapter of his European career following a productive spell in Ligue 1.
