Alex Iwobi joins Nigeria’s centurion club with 100th Super Eagles cap

Alex Iwobi has become only the fourth Nigerian player to reach 100 appearances for the Super Eagles, achieving the milestone during Wednesday’s international friendly against Portugal.

The midfielder’s landmark cap marks another chapter in a national team career that has spanned more than a decade, during which he has established himself as one of Nigeria’s most consistent and influential players.

Iwobi made his senior debut in October 2015 and quickly became a regular fixture in the Super Eagles setup. Since then, he has represented Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup and multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, earning a reputation for his versatility, creativity and commitment to the national cause.

Before kick-off in Portugal, the 30-year-old was honoured by teammates and officials in recognition of his achievement, joining an exclusive group of Nigerian football legends to have reached the century mark in international appearances.

Reflecting on the milestone, Iwobi expressed pride at representing Nigeria throughout his career and reiterated his desire to continue contributing to the team for years to come.

Among his many memories in national colours, the midfielder has previously highlighted his decisive goal against Zambia in 2017, which secured Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as one of the standout moments of his international journey.

A product of Arsenal’s academy, Iwobi has enjoyed a distinguished club career in England while remaining a key figure for the Super Eagles. His 100th appearance is a testament to his longevity, consistency and enduring importance to Nigerian football.

With his place now secured among the country’s international centurions, Iwobi’s focus will turn to helping Nigeria build towards future tournaments as he continues to add to an already impressive legacy in green and white.
