Algerian defender Anouar Boukhalfa has joined USM Khenchela on a free transfer from MO Bejaia, strengthening the Ligue 1 side’s options at left-back.
The 28-year-old, who plays primarily as a left-back and is left-footed, has moved to Khenchela ahead of the 2026-27 campaign after half a season with Bejaia. The deal was completed on 21 July, with Boukhalfa signing as a permanent addition rather than on loan.
Boukhalfa arrives after a short spell at MO Bejaia, whom he also joined on a free transfer in January 2026 from CR Beni Thour. His rapid progression between clubs over the past year reflects a rise from the lower domestic tiers into the top flight, with Khenchela now his highest-profile stage.
The defender has already experienced national cup action, making an appearance in the Coupe d’Algerie and playing 76 minutes in that competition. That outing offered a glimpse of his ability to operate in knockout football, experience that Khenchela will hope to tap into across league and cup fixtures.
Born on 28 February 1998, Boukhalfa is entering what are typically considered a defender’s peak years and gives Khenchela a specialist option on the left side of defence. His arrival also provides additional depth in a position where balance and left-footed distribution are often at a premium.
