Aurele Amenda: Switzerland-Cameroon defender joins Coventry from Frankfurt in €18m deal

Coventry have signed Switzerland-Cameroon centre-back Aurele Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt in a permanent €18m transfer. The 22-year-old moves to the Premier League club after two seasons on the books of the Bundesliga side.

Amenda, a 1.94m right-footed defender, joins Coventry after making 32 league appearances in Germany’s top flight. He had returned to Frankfurt in the summer of 2024 following a loan spell with Swiss champions Young Boys during the 2023-24 campaign.

Born in Biel/Bienne, Amenda came through the Young Boys system, progressing from their youth ranks to the first team before earning a move to Frankfurt in January 2024. He established himself in Switzerland’s Super League with 43 appearances and also featured in European competition, including the Champions League and Europa League.

His time at Young Boys brought significant success, with three Swiss league titles and a Swiss Cup win among his honours. At youth level he also collected a Swiss U18 championship, underlining his long association with the Bern club before his switch to Germany.

Amenda has been involved in Switzerland’s World Cup 2026 squad, although he did not feature in any of their matches. His arrival adds top-flight and European experience to Coventry’s defensive options ahead of the new Premier League season.

The move, completed on 16 July 2026, sees Amenda leave Frankfurt for Coventry in a confirmed €18m transfer.
