Ernest Nuamah has spoken of his happiness at rejoining Ghana after a prolonged absence, following his inclusion in the Black Stars’ provisional squad as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Ernest Nuamah has been named in Ghana’s 28-man training group currently based in Cardiff as the team builds towards the tournament in North America. His return marks the end of a lengthy spell away from international football due to a serious knee injury.
Nuamah had been sidelined for more than a year after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, which kept him out of Ghana’s recent international fixtures. During that period, the winger underwent rehabilitation and gradually worked his way back to full fitness at club level with Olympique Lyonnais.
The winger reported to the Black Stars’ training camp at Dragon Park on 25 May 2026, where he has already taken part in early training sessions as head coach Carlos Queiroz evaluates his squad options ahead of final selection.
Ghana’s current training group will be reduced from 28 players to 26 by 1 June 2026, as competition intensifies for places in the final squad for the upcoming international assignments. The trimming of the roster is part of the final stages of preparation before the team’s next fixture.
Following the squad reduction, Ghana are scheduled to play Wales in a friendly match on 2 June 2026. The match will take place at the Cardiff City Stadium and is expected to serve as an important test as the team continues its build-up to the World Cup.
The Black Stars are using the Cardiff camp as part of their broader preparation for the 2026 tournament, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. The friendlies and training sessions are designed to help the coaching staff finalise tactical plans and player combinations ahead of the competition.
Nuamah’s return adds further depth and competition to Ghana’s attacking department at a crucial stage of preparations. His availability provides Queiroz with another option on the wing as he looks to shape a balanced squad capable of competing at the highest level.
Speaking about his return to the national team setup, Nuamah expressed satisfaction at being back with the group after his long spell on the sidelines.
“Yeah, it’s been good. It feels good to be back around the team. It’s been one year since I haven’t been here. But it feels good like everyone is dedicated.”
His comeback is seen as a timely boost for Ghana, both in terms of experience and attacking strength, as they continue their preparations for the global tournament.
