José Gomes joins Al Khaleej on two-year deal amid Al Ahly links

Portuguese coach José Gomes has officially been appointed as the new head coach of Al Khaleej, bringing an end to speculation linking him with a move to Al Ahly SC.

The Saudi club confirmed the appointment through its official channels, announcing that Gomes has signed a two-year contract ahead of the new season as Al Khaleej look to strengthen their technical setup and improve on last season’s league campaign.

Gomes arrives after a respectable spell with Al-Fateh SC, where he guided the club to safety before later leading them to an 11th-place finish in the Roshn Saudi League with 37 points.

His name had recently emerged in reports surrounding Al Ahly’s managerial search, with the Egyptian giants believed to be monitoring several coaching options. However, the Portuguese tactician has now committed his future to Al Khaleej, effectively ending rumours of a possible move to Cairo.

Al Khaleej themselves finished 12th in the Saudi Pro League last season, also on 37 points, and club officials are hoping Gomes can bring greater consistency and help the team progress further up the table in the upcoming campaign.

The appointment represents another important step in Al Khaleej’s preparations for the new season as the club continues building towards greater stability and competitiveness in Saudi football.
