Hakimi appeal verdict set for June 19 during World Cup campaign

Achraf Hakimi has been under investigation since February 2023 following a rape allegation, with the case now approaching a major legal turning point as the appeal ruling date has been confirmed for June 19, 2026 ;   right in the middle of the FIFA World Cup period.

According to reports, the Paris prosecutor’s office in Nanterre opened proceedings after a 24-year-old woman filed a complaint against the Paris Saint-Germain defender. The investigation has since gone through multiple phases of hearings and judicial review.

In February 2026, the investigating judge reportedly decided to refer Hakimi to a criminal court, meaning he could potentially face trial. However, the Moroccan international and his legal team immediately appealed the decision, escalating the case to the instruction chamber.

That appeal is now set for a crucial ruling on June 19, with French media outlets RMC and BFM TV reporting that the decision will be made public during the World Cup — a tournament Hakimi is expected to feature in with Morocco.

The timing adds significant attention to the case, as Hakimi remains one of Morocco’s most important players and a key figure heading into the global competition.

The case has also drawn wider football attention due to the involvement of Kylian Mbappé, who previously gave testimony in support of his former PSG teammate. However, Mbappé later submitted a clarification statement, saying his earlier comments may have been misinterpreted regarding what Hakimi allegedly told him about “caresses on intimate parts,” as referenced in court discussions.

Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations throughout the process, and the case remains ongoing as legal proceedings continue in France.

For now, attention will be split between the pitch and the courtroom, with the Morocco star preparing for a World Cup campaign while awaiting a decision that could have major consequences for his future.
