Fresh reports in the Spanish media suggest that Real Madrid are preparing for crucial internal discussions regarding the future of star forward Kylian Mbappe following growing concerns about tensions within the club’s dressing room.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, senior figures at the club believe an urgent meeting between club president Florentino Perez and Mbappe is now necessary after a series of incidents that have reportedly unsettled the atmosphere inside the squad.
The latest controversy emerged after Mbappe made comments following Real Madrid’s match against Real Oviedo on Thursday. The French international was said to have indirectly criticised coach Alvaro Arbeloa, intensifying scrutiny around his relationship with members of the club.
AS reported that restoring discipline and stability inside the dressing room has become one of the club’s immediate priorities, with Mbappe’s recent conduct allegedly creating concern among officials.
The newspaper stated that Perez had already intended to address the broader situation within the squad and discuss several tense moments involving one of the club’s leading players. However, the disagreement involving Arbeloa reportedly accelerated plans for direct talks.
According to the report, club officials wanted clarity regarding Mbappe’s intentions for next season and his long-term commitment to Real Madrid. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward is said to have reassured the club by confirming that he is happy in Madrid.
The report explained that the exchange between Mbappe and Arbeloa after the Real Oviedo match gave the planned meeting “an urgent character” before the player departs to join the France national football team for the 2026 World Cup.
AS wrote: “What was supposed to be a reprimand in light of what has happened over the past few weeks has now become a matter of urgency because of the new dispute that has arisen in a team that is suffering from division and lacks the cohesion necessary to make sense of everything that happens in the dressing room.”
The newspaper also claimed that some within Real Madrid are increasingly worried by what they see as repeated behavioural issues involving Mbappe. Officials reportedly believe the striker has become distant from the squad, while several teammates are said to be confused by actions they feel could have been avoided.
Despite the concerns, the club reportedly continues to regard Mbappe as one of the most important figures in the team. AS stated that Perez still considers the Frenchman to be the best player at the club, though the report also stressed that no individual is considered bigger than Real Madrid itself.
The newspaper concluded: “At Real Madrid, Mbappe is still considered a key player, and Florentino Perez ranks him as the best player, but no one is indispensable to the team, as was the case with Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, since the priority is the club.”
The developments come at a sensitive period for Real Madrid as the club seeks to maintain unity and stability ahead of the new season and upcoming international commitments.
