Trabzonspor push to keep Andre Onana as Manchester United plan exit

Trabzonspor are reportedly keen to retain Andre Onana after Manchester United informed the goalkeeper that he has no future at Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international has impressed during his loan spell in Turkey, playing a major role in Trabzonspor’s run to the Turkish Cup final and rebuilding his reputation after a difficult period in England.

Despite the possibility of needing another goalkeeper should Altay Bayındır leave this summer, Manchester United are reportedly unwilling to reintegrate Onana into the squad.

Club officials are said to believe that the goalkeeper’s high wages and strong personality would make managing him as a backup option extremely complicated.

As a result, United are now focused on resolving his future before pre-season preparations begin in July as part of a wider squad restructuring process.

Trabzonspor are currently exploring ways to extend Onana’s stay, with another loan agreement considered the most realistic solution at this stage.

However, a permanent transfer has not been ruled out entirely.

One of the biggest obstacles remains the financial aspect of the deal, with Manchester United hoping to recover at least part of the £47.2 million they paid to Inter Milan for the goalkeeper in 2023.

Reports also indicate that Beşiktaş JK are monitoring the situation closely, potentially increasing competition for the player’s signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

For now, Trabzonspor remain hopeful that Onana’s successful spell in Turkey and his growing importance within the squad could help convince all parties to reach another agreement for next season.
