Celebrations continued across Cairo into the early hours of Thursday after Zamalek SC secured the Egyptian League title, only days after the club’s disappointment in the African Confederation Cup against USM Alger.
Supporters of the White Knights filled the streets in celebration as club officials immediately turned attention towards a series of critical financial and sporting decisions expected to shape the next phase of the club’s future.
According to an exclusive statement from a Zamalek source to WinWin, the club hierarchy is preparing meetings in the coming hours to determine special rewards for the first-team squad following their league success.
The source revealed that a businessman and former club president intends to provide significant financial rewards to the players from his personal funds as recognition for winning the domestic title.
Attention has also shifted towards resolving the club’s ongoing financial difficulties, which have led to serious sporting consequences in recent months.
The source explained: “There will be a meeting this evening for the club’s investment committee with the aim of trying to provide a large sum of money to pay off the debts owed to players and clubs due to cases in the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which have resulted in 18 transfer bans.”
The Egyptian champions have reportedly already secured close to two million dollars in funding, but officials acknowledge that further work is required to fully resolve the crisis.
The source added that nearly four million dollars are still needed to settle the remaining obligations linked to player and club debts.
He said: “There are intensive efforts underway to reach agreements and settlements with some players and clubs that have dues from the White Castle within the current nine days, and before the end of the period scheduled for the end of this month.”
Club officials are also hoping for support from wealthy supporters and businessmen connected to Zamalek as efforts continue to ease the financial burden.
According to the source, the committee assigned to handle the transfer-ban crisis is attempting to negotiate reduced payment obligations through settlement agreements and instalment arrangements with creditors.
The financial discussions are seen as vital for the club’s ability to rebuild and strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
Alongside the financial meetings, senior figures within the club are expected to hold further discussions concerning the sporting direction of the team.
A separate meeting is reportedly scheduled between club president Hussein Labib, vice-president Hisham Nasr and sporting director John Edward.
The discussions will focus on the future of the coaching staff led by Moataz Gamal, while club officials are also expected to examine transfer offers for several key players.
Among the players attracting interest are defender Hossam Abdel-Maguid, Brazilian player Juan Bezerra and Angolan footballer Chico Panza.
Zamalek’s league title has delivered a major boost to morale after continental disappointment, but the coming days could prove equally decisive as the club attempts to stabilise its finances, resolve registration bans and determine the future shape of the squad.
