Youssef Hadji joins Morocco national team coaching staff

The Moroccan Football Federation has announced the appointment of former international Youssef Hadji to the coaching staff of the national team, marking a new addition to the technical setup following recent changes in leadership.

Hadji will take up the role of second assistant coach under head coach Mohamed Wahbi, who has recently assumed charge of the Atlas Lions after succeeding Walid Regragui.

The move is part of a broader restructuring of the national team’s technical staff as preparations continue for upcoming competitions.

New coaching structure takes shape

According to an official statement released by the Moroccan Football Federation, Hadji has joined the national team’s coaching staff in a supporting role.

He will work alongside Portuguese coach Joao Sacramento, who has been named first assistant coach under Wahbi.

The appointment signals a continuation of the federation’s strategy to combine local experience with international expertise within the technical team.

Mohamed Wahbi now leads the national side following the departure of Walid Regragui, who parted ways with the team just days before the announcement of the new coaching structure.

Familiar partnership reunited

Hadji’s appointment also reunites him with head coach Mohamed Wahbi, with whom he has previously worked at youth level.

The two were part of the technical staff of Morocco’s youth national team that achieved success by winning the 2025 World Cup title.

This prior collaboration is expected to provide continuity and understanding within the coaching setup, as both individuals are already familiar with each other’s methods and approach to the game.

Experienced figure returns to national setup

As a former player, Hadji brings significant international experience to his new role.

He represented Morocco in 64 international matches over a nine-year period between 2003 and 2012, making him one of the more seasoned figures to transition into coaching within the national structure.

His playing career with the Atlas Lions is seen as an asset, particularly in mentoring players and contributing to the team’s tactical and technical development.

Transition period for the atlas lions

The appointment comes during a period of transition for the Moroccan national team following the recent change in management.

With a new head coach in place and adjustments being made to the coaching staff, the federation appears focused on building a cohesive and effective technical unit.

Hadji’s inclusion is viewed as part of efforts to strengthen the team’s backroom staff with individuals who have both experience and familiarity with Moroccan football.

Looking ahead

As the Atlas Lions prepare for future challenges, the newly assembled coaching team will be tasked with maintaining competitive performances on the continental and global stage.

The combination of Mohamed Wahbi’s leadership, Joao Sacramento’s experience, and Hadji’s familiarity with the national setup is expected to play a key role in shaping the team’s direction.

With the coaching structure now taking shape, attention will turn to how the new staff implements its vision and prepares the team for upcoming fixtures.
