Liverpool target teenage winger Diomandé as Salah successor

Liverpool have identified RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomandé as their primary target to replace Mohamed Salah, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the 2025–26 season.

The 19-year-old has emerged as a key figure in Liverpool’s recruitment plans, with internal approval granted for a potential move. However, the Merseyside club are likely to face strong competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who have already begun discussions with the player’s representatives.

Salah’s anticipated departure on a free transfer next summer is set to mark the end of a significant chapter at Anfield. The Egypt international has been central to Liverpool’s success in recent years, and his exit has prompted the club to accelerate efforts to identify a long-term replacement capable of leading a new-look attack.

Diomandé has quickly risen to the top of that shortlist. Talks are ongoing between Liverpool and the player’s representatives, although discussions remain at an early stage. No formal offer has yet been made, and there have been no direct negotiations with RB Leipzig.

Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, have moved swiftly. Under sporting director Luis Campos, the French champions have already held meetings with Diomandé’s camp and are closely monitoring his situation as they seek to strengthen their attacking options.

RB Leipzig are understood to be in a strong negotiating position. The Bundesliga side signed Diomandé from Leganés for approximately €20m last summer, and his performances since then have significantly increased his value. While he is currently estimated to be worth around €75m, Leipzig are expected to demand more than €100m (£85m) if they are to consider a sale.

The German club are also keen to retain the player for at least another season and are preparing an improved contract offer in an effort to delay any potential transfer.

Interest in Diomandé has been driven by an impressive breakthrough campaign. The Ivory Coast international has scored 13 goals and provided eight assists in 32 appearances this season, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most promising young wingers.

Primarily operating from the left flank, he is known for cutting inside onto his stronger right foot. His style combines pace, direct attacking play and an eye for goal, attributes that have contributed to comparisons with some of the game’s top forwards.

Despite Diomandé’s status as Liverpool’s leading target, the club are exploring alternative options. Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has been identified as a possible fallback should a deal for the Leipzig player prove too difficult or costly to complete.

With competition intensifying and Leipzig reluctant to sell, any move for Diomandé is likely to be complex. However, Liverpool’s need to plan for life after Salah ensures that their pursuit of attacking reinforcements will remain a priority in the months ahead.
