Ghana defender William Dankyi has joined Iraqi side Al-Hedod SC from Aduana, completing an overseas switch for the 26-year-old left-back. The move takes the former Ghana Premier League winner out of his home country for the next chapter of a career built largely in domestic competition.
Dankyi arrives at Al-Hedod with significant top-flight experience, having made 117 appearances in the Ghana Premier League and featuring regularly as a left-sided defender. A naturally left-footed full-back standing 1.78m tall, he will be expected to offer balance and width down the flank for his new club.
The Kumasi-born defender has also played continental football, with outings in both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup earlier in his career. He contributed an assist in the latter competition, underlining his ability to support attacks from deep positions as well as fulfil his defensive duties.
Dankyi’s move to Aduana in August 2025 came on a free transfer after a spell with Gold Stars FC, where he had arrived in 2023 from King Faisal. Before his time away from Accra, he was part of the Hearts of Oak squad that won the Ghanaian league title in the 2020-21 season, one of the key honours on his CV.
Having previously represented clubs including Liberty Professionals, Tema Youth and Charity Stars, Dankyi now embarks on his first venture in Iraqi football. His transfer from Aduana to Al-Hedod SC was completed on 27 July 2026.
