Three reasons why Al Ahly are refusing to sack Ammouta despite growing fan anger

Al Ahly have no immediate plans to dismiss head coach Hussein Ammouta despite growing criticism from supporters over the team’s performances, with the club’s management believing there are three major reasons to maintain confidence in the Moroccan coach.

The decision comes despite Al Ahly’s 1-0 victory over Modern Sport at Cairo International Stadium on Thursday, in their eighth-round Egyptian Premier League encounter.

Although the result secured three important points, the team’s display did little to satisfy supporters, who were particularly frustrated by the number of chances wasted in front of goal.

Angry chants were directed at the players and coaching staff during the match, while calls for Ammouta to leave have continued to gather momentum on social media.

However, the growing dissatisfaction has not changed the position of Al Ahly’s football management. A source inside the club told WinWin that there is currently no intention to make another change to the technical staff.

Instead, the management believes Ammouta deserves more time to implement his ideas and address the team’s shortcomings.

Three reasons behind Al Ahly’s confidence in Ammouta

According to the source, the club’s decision to maintain its support for the Moroccan coach is based on three main considerations.

The first is the importance of technical stability. Al Ahly’s management believes that repeatedly changing coaches within short periods could prevent the team from developing a consistent playing identity.

The club wants Ammouta to have enough time to communicate his tactical ideas to the players and ensure that his instructions are properly implemented on the pitch.

Management is therefore reluctant to interrupt the current project before the coach has had a reasonable opportunity to establish his methods and improve the team’s performances.

The second consideration is Ammouta’s record since taking charge of the Egyptian giants.

The Moroccan has overseen 10 matches, recording eight victories and two draws without suffering a defeat.

Al Ahly’s management considers that record encouraging, arguing that the results do not justify dismissing the coach at this stage, despite the concerns surrounding the team’s performances.

The third reason concerns the responsibility of the players. The club’s football management does not believe Ammouta should carry the entire blame for the team’s shortcomings.

There is particular concern about the players’ failure to consistently follow tactical instructions, convert clear scoring opportunities and demonstrate the fighting spirit expected when representing Al Ahly.

The management believes the squad must also take responsibility for the current situation rather than allowing criticism to fall exclusively on the coaching staff.

Wael Gomaa sends a message to Al Ahly players

The position of the club’s management was also reflected in the comments made by football director Wael Gomaa following the victory over Modern Sport.

Gomaa praised the determination shown by the players during the match but made it clear that such commitment must become a consistent feature of their performances.

His message was understood to reflect the club’s wider position that responsibility for improving the team’s situation extends beyond the head coach.

While acknowledging the importance of securing victories, Gomaa stressed that representing Al Ahly carries expectations that go beyond simply collecting points.

The former defender’s comments also highlighted the need for players to understand the demands associated with wearing the club’s shirt and to demonstrate the appropriate level of commitment whenever they take to the pitch.

According to the source, the management expects a significant improvement from the squad in the upcoming fixtures.

The players are being expected to show greater determination, compete for every ball and take their chances in front of goal, rather than relying solely on favourable results to satisfy supporters.

Al Ahly’s management is particularly keen to see performances that reflect the club’s history and the expectations of its large fan base.

For now, Ammouta appears set to retain his position, with the club choosing to prioritise continuity over another coaching change.

However, the message from the management is clear: the coach will be given an opportunity to continue his work, but the players must also respond to the criticism by producing better performances in the matches ahead.
