OGC Nice have accepted an offer from Hamburger SV for Nigeria striker Terem Moffi, bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty over the 27-year-old’s future.
The agreement between the two clubs was reported by Nice-Matin on Wednesday, although the value of Hamburger SV’s proposal has not been disclosed. Nice had initially hoped to secure a substantial fee for Moffi but have now given the move the green light.
The transfer is not yet complete. Moffi must still reach an agreement on personal terms with the German club, who have been monitoring the forward for several weeks.
A contract agreement would allow the move to be finalised and give Moffi the opportunity to begin a new chapter in the Bundesliga after his position at Nice became increasingly difficult.
For OGC Nice, accepting the offer represents a compromise. The club’s owner, Ineos, had originally been seeking a high transfer fee, partly because of the €8m purchase option negotiated with FC Porto during the winter.
Moffi spent six months on loan at the Portuguese club but FC Porto ultimately decided not to retain him permanently. With no offer matching Nice’s expectations forthcoming, the French club has since lowered its demands in an effort to move the deal forward.
Only an agreement between Moffi and Hamburger SV now stands between the Nigeria international and an official transfer to Germany. The striker remains under contract with OGC Nice until 30 June 2027 and is currently valued at €8m by Transfermarkt.
Moffi earns an annual salary of €900,000, equivalent to 585,000,000 FCFA.
His departure could come shortly before OGC Nice begin their Ligue 1 campaign. Nice are due to face FC Lorient in their opening match of the French championship.
The betting company 1xBet lists Nice as favourites for that fixture, offering odds of 2.15 for a home win. A draw is priced at 3.45, while an FC Lorient victory is listed at 3.20.
