The Real Madrid midfielder has returned to contention after missing France’s previous two knockout matches with an adductor muscle injury, giving Les Bleus another experienced option as they bid to reach a third consecutive World Cup final.
Tchouaméni was ruled out of France’s 1-0 Round of 16 victory over Paraguay and the 2-0 quarter-final win against Morocco after suffering the injury earlier in the tournament.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Deschamps explained that the decision to leave the midfielder out against Morocco was based on medical advice.
“The risk was too high (against Morocco). He is better. We cannot say that he is 100% recovered. Today, he is available again,” Deschamps said.
France receive timely midfield reinforcement
Although Deschamps acknowledged that Tchouaméni has not fully recovered, the midfielder has made sufficient progress to return to the squad for the crucial clash with Spain.
His availability provides France with additional quality and experience in midfield at a decisive stage of the competition.
During his absence, Manu Koné partnered Adrien Rabiot in central midfield, with the duo helping France overcome Paraguay and Morocco to reach the last four.
Their impressive displays mean Deschamps now has an important selection decision to make ahead of Tuesday’s encounter.
Selection dilemma for Deschamps
Whether Tchouaméni returns straight to the starting XI or is introduced from the bench remains to be seen.
The 26-year-old has been one of France’s most influential midfielders in recent years, offering defensive solidity, composure in possession and tactical intelligence.
His return also strengthens France’s squad depth as they prepare to face a Spain side chasing a place in the World Cup final.
Les Bleus will hold one final training session before travelling to Dallas for the semi-final, with Deschamps expected to have almost his entire squad available as France continue their pursuit of another world title.
